LANL Seminar for American and Russian Scientists

The LANL Nuclear Safety Group hires me to organize and coordinate a seminar for American and Russian nuclear scientists to study and develop new safety procedures for reprocessing nuclear materials. This was the result of an incident in 1993 where a Plutonium reprocessing plant blew up in Tomsk, Siberia.

I am sent to Defense Language Institute (the old Army Language School) for refresher course in Russian language. Birgitta goes with me. The Chechnya rebellion has just begun. We stay in Pacific Grove.
